White Girls in Moccasins Program

  • A Note From The Frank Theatre Company

Words can’t describe how happy I am to return to live performances and start our 2022-2023 season with White Girls in Moccasins by Yolanda Bonnell. We programmed this piece while it was still in development three years ago. The world turned upside down in some ways, like everyone and every theatre organization we faced many challenges, but we continued leading by our values and mission, and were able to create many opportunities for BIPOC queer artists while producing high calibre work. Covid did not stop us, it reaffirmed our values and the importance of art and activism, it reminded us of the importance of connection, story-telling and community.

Th frank theatre is committed to bringing stories on stage that exist outside of the euro-centric aesthetic, and to celebrate diverse forms and styles of performances that not only centre BIPOC characters but are also told through authentic, innovative and cross-cultural perspectives. White Girls in Moccasins is an important story, it is intimate and ambitious, it is thought-provoking and funny, it is complex and poetic. Under the beautiful direction of Quelemia Sparrow, we are invited into a magical world where pain and laughter collide, where fantasy and reality merge.
