March 5th – 10th 2019 at the SUM Gallery
After a playing to sold-out houses at the Vancouver Fringe Festival, and winning The Fringe New Play Prize and The Critics’ Choice Award, Poly Queer Love Ballad returns to Vancouver!
Poly Queer Love Ballad is a bold, intimate new musical, merging slam poetry with catchy pop-folk tunes. Nina, a polyamorous bisexual poet, meets Gabbie, a monogamous lesbian songwriter, at a Cafe Deux Soleils. With two microphones, a loop pedal, and array of instruments, they struggle to reconcile their fierce mutual attraction with their opposing perspectives on love. The show explores polyamory and queerness, while aiming to create a new representation of intimacy that isn’t confined by genre, medium or societal obligations.
“The complicated intimacy between old-fashioned romantic Gaby …and polyamorous Nina… is beautifully mapped in Vickruck’s songs and West’s passionate poems”
—The Georgia Straight
“…the tenderness and rapture of this story made me weep big, nostalgic tears.”
