the frank would like to congratulate Rafael Antonio Renderos, one of our Clean Sheets 2014 playwrights on being awarded second prize for the Uprising National Playwriting Competition: Peace, Politics & Society. This competition celebrates playwrights whose work engages with social and political issues or promotes peace, social justice and human rights and is presented by Downstage and the Consortium for Peace Studies at the University of Calgary and the School of Creative and Performing Arts. Read more about the competition here. Rafael presented his play, Salvador at Clean Sheets in August of this year.
Here’s what he had to say about the award and Clean Sheets:
“Clean Sheets 2014 was a truly fantastic opportunity provided by The Frank Theatre for which I am very grateful. Working with Richard Wolfe, artistic director of Pi Theatre, helped to grow my play Salvador in exponential ways. The questions posed by Mr. Wolfe and the team of actors I was assigned deepened the themes of the play and challenged me to explore further. I was recently named runner-up in the Uprising National Playwriting Competition with this piece, an achievement I attribute to the support provided by The Frank and the workshop troupe.”
